LED mirrors explained: light, demister, and fitting

An LED mirror sounds like a gadget until you see one at dusk. The light sits behind the glass and washes the wall around it, so the mirror appears to float in a soft halo. It's not a spotlight and it's not a ring light; it's closer to built-in mood lighting that happens to be a mirror.

The light

Because the glow comes from behind the mirror, it flatters the room and the person in front of it. There's no glare bouncing off the glass and no hard shadows on your face, which is why backlit mirrors work so well above a vanity. The backlit range lets you run the light warm or cool: warm for evenings and living spaces, cool when you want detail, like makeup or a morning shave.

The demister

LED models in our range include a demister: a gentle heating element behind the glass that stops condensation settling, so the mirror stays clear when the room steams up. No wiping, no waiting. One placement note that applies to all our mirrors: they're designed for dry indoor spaces, so a powder room or vanity wall suits them better than the splash zone of a shower.

The fitting, honestly

Here's the part some retailers mumble: hardwired LED mirrors must be installed by a licensed electrician under Australian wiring rules. That's not us being cautious, it's the law, and it's also the difference between a clean wall with no visible cord and a daisy chain of adaptors. Budget for the electrician's visit when you budget for the mirror, and keep the invoice, because LED warranty claims need proof of professional installation. Full warranty details are on the Returns & Warranty page.

The range and the timing

Almost every shape we make has an LED version: the Sienna arch, the Elena pill, the Jasmine round, the Vittoria arch, the Danielle D-shape, and the full length Felicia and Allira. LED pricing sits $100 above the framed version of the same mirror across most of the range.

Timing, honestly: the LED range is on pre-order, arriving August 2026, with one exception. The Sienna Copper LED 1800 x 850 at $560 is in stock right now, an antique copper frame with the backlight behind it, and it's delivered by our own team like everything else.

Browse the LED collection to see each shape glowing in its room, and if you're weighing LED against a framed mirror for the same wall, email hello@seventeenmirrors.com.au with a photo. We'll give you a straight answer, including when the answer is that the framed one suits your room better.
