Choosing a mirror finish: matte black, brushed gold, antique copper or white satin

Shape and size you can measure. Finish is the one people go back and forth on, because a screen never shows a metallic honestly. The same brushed gold can look brassy on one monitor and almost silver on another. So instead of trusting the photo, it helps to know what each finish actually does in a room. We make four, and they each pull a space in a different direction.

Matte black: sharp and grounding

Matte black is the graphic choice. It draws a crisp line around the glass, anchors a busy wall, and suits rooms with strong contrast: black tapware, dark joinery, a bit of edge. It's the safest finish if you want the mirror to read as architectural rather than decorative. On a pale wall it stands out cleanly; in a dark room it adds depth.

Brushed gold: warm and soft

Brushed gold warms everything near it. It's brushed, not shiny, so it glows rather than glares, and it flatters timber, cream, blush and greenery. If your hardware leans warm, think brass handles or warm tapware, gold sits in the same family. It's the finish that makes a room feel a little more considered without shouting.

Antique copper: warm with character

Antique copper is the quiet favourite. It's softer and deeper than gold, with a lived-in warmth that reads expensive without trying. It works beautifully against greens, terracotta and natural timber, and it brings character to a plain wall. White satin: light and calm

White satin almost disappears into a pale wall, which is exactly the point. It keeps a room feeling light and uncluttered and lets the shape of the mirror do the talking. It's the finish for soft, calm interiors: coastal, Scandi, anywhere you want the mirror to add space without adding a strong line.

Match it to what's already in the room

The simplest way to choose is to look at your metals: tapware, door handles, light fittings, cabinet pulls. A finish that echoes them will feel like it belongs. Warm rooms with timber, brass and cream take gold or copper. Cooler or high-contrast rooms take matte black. Pale, airy rooms take white satin. Nothing has to match exactly, it just helps to sit in the same warm or cool family.

Finishes shift with the light. Gold and copper warm up under evening lamps and cool down in midday daylight, so check your choice at both.
